Learn About Our Veteran’s Opportunity Center

Columbia Basin Vet Center is a nonprofit that helps veterans and is located at located at 1020 S. 7th Ave. Pasco, WA 99301. We are an opportunity center that aims to provide opportunities and assistance to the men and women who served our country.

The primary mission of our Veteran’s Opportunity Center (VOC) is to assist veterans in receiving benefits they have earned through their service to our country. However, many folks may not know that we also operate a clean and sober house for veterans going through transitional events in their life. Additionally, we offer a home for student veterans using their GI Bill benefits.

In order to serve veterans on a more extensive level, we house counselors and case managers from the Walla Walla Vet’s Center who offer counseling services to both vets—who are dealing with combat and sexual trauma—and their families without cost. Other agencies housed at the Veterans’ Opportunity Center here in Pasco are the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Program which assists in housing homeless veterans in Benton, Franklin, and Walla Walla Counties; VetCorps that advocates for and assist veterans looking for educational opportunities; WorkSource, which assists vets in obtaining employment and developing skills; and the Disabled American Veterans Charity (DAV) that provides assistance for disabled veterans.

We’re also pleased to announce that we have a certified service officer here at Columbia Basin Vet Center. He is available four days per week to assist veterans in applying for medical and disability benefits.

At Columbia Basin Vet Center, we also conduct our Veteran Relief Program. This includes periodic Life Skills classes involving topics such as budgeting, landlord/tenant laws, and job searching. Additionally, we host a veteran’s closet that provides casual and business clothing to vets as well as hygiene kits.

Through the combined efforts of the agencies and programs housed at our VOC, we were able to serve veterans with over 2,000 visits and appointments out of one location alone in 2014. We serve approximately 40-50 vets per week.

Each year since 2012, we have seen these numbers rise by about 40%, and we expect the number of vets that need the services we provide to continue to grow. We provide the services the vets need happily, and we take pride in the number of local vets we serve each week.
